Oh, how these make me yearn for my days in the darkroom… I was schooled in photography back in the days of film and photo paper. I spent many, many wonderful (and some frustrating) darkroom hours in my college and grad school years fascinated by the amazing chemical reactions that made the latent images appear and those that fixed them permanently in place. That silver coating on the bottom of the trays is a bit of a Proustian experience for me.
